The Life of DMAs: A typical Job Offer In The Higher Ed

Below is a copy of a job offer letter sent to a DMA pianist by one of the top US music institutions. I removed his name and the name of the institution to prevent any retaliatory actions against him. Enjoy!

"The rate for our instructors comes from a rubric that considers highest degree earned, and experience teaching privately. Out of fairness to our full faculty, I cannot offer a rate above $40/hr based on your current qualifications. Also, we do not offer travel reimbursement for instructors. I do understand the difficulty if traveling to _ from __. We will work to combine lessons closely together as much as is possible, but we can only take them as they come. If you feel this may not work out for you financially, I understand if you might wish not to make the trip to us at ___."
